An introduction to table tennis game
If anybody has to name a game that looks similar to lawn tennis then it is table tennis. The game can be played with 2 or 4 players. The game is known by the name of Ping Pong in different countries. The game was introduced in England during 1800s. In 1926, an international association was formed by the name of ITTA (International Table Tennis Association). Over the decades, from England, the game spread to Japan and other nations. During the 50s and 60s, the game was dominated by the Japanese and in 1980 the game got included in the Olympics.
As far as the equipments are concerned it includes – wooden paddles, a net, a small plastic ball, and a table. One player serves the ball and it should bounce once before it reaches the opponent and it should bounce again prior to being struck by another player. The player who is returning the ball have to ensure that it should not bounce over again on his/her side once the ball has been struck. The players are allowed to serve five times consecutively. Out of two players, the one who manages to earn 21 points first, he/she is declared the winner.
The players make use of the paddle (racket) while playing. The paddles are made up of wood and the striking surface, also called blade, is covered with rubber. Most of the times, they are available in two color combinations – red on one side and black on the other. Interestingly, the size and shape of the paddle can vary, but the shape of the blade should be firm and flat. The table for the game should have a height of 9 feet and its length should be about 5 feet. The table should be 2 feet 6 inches from the ground.
